A brand synonymous with quality in the world of combat sports, Cleto Reyes is a boxing brand who have established a reputation for producing some of the best boxing gloves in the world. Their gloves are used for training and in professional boxing bouts by some of the biggest names in combat sports. You may have even seen a glimpse of them in the latest Creed III movie, where a lot of the main characters were seen using Cleto Reyes boxing gloves.
But perhaps you’re not actively training in boxing, and instead your martial arts training is focused on Muay Thai - can you still use Cleto Reyes boxing gloves for your Muay Thai training? The answer is of course you can! But there are a couple of things to keep in mind before committing to investing in a pair of Cleto Reyes boxing gloves, as they have a variety of models to choose from, so it’s important to know which one will compliment your Muay Thai training the best.
If there’s one attribute that sets Cleto Reyes apart from a lot of the other brands in combat sports, it is their craftsmanship and attention to detail in the construction of their boxing gloves. These gloves are all handmade in Mexico using genuine leather and are padded with a special rubber foam found in many of their gloves. If the quality of your boxing gloves matters to you, we strongly recommend you consider making the switch to Cleto Reyes.
Cleto Reyes boxing gloves are absolutely worth investing in, especially if you train more than the average person. These top tier boxing gloves are made to last, provide exceptional hand and wrist support, and just feel amazing from top to bottom.
With the quality of their products can come a hefty price tag. While Cleto Reyes does offer boxing gloves at different price points, it’s important to note that their top selling gloves come down to two models, but only one of them has everything to best compliment your muay thai training.
The Cleto Reyes Extra Padding Boxing Gloves are one of Cleto Reyes’ more underrated set of boxing gloves. At the moment, their Hook and Loop model are the go-to for many boxers, but specifically talking in the context of Muay Thai training, the Cleto Reyes Extra Padding Boxing Gloves possess all the attributes to withstand your regular Muay Thai training.
Also handmade with genuine leather, these gloves provide exceptional padding that makes hitting the heavy bag a joy. The construction of the gloves also allows for ample flexibility during clinch work exercises, unlike their Hook and Loop model that keeps your wrists stiff as a bone.
Hand and wrist protection should be top of mind when selecting your next pair of boxing gloves. Apart from the fact that these boxing gloves are made with quality materials, the rubber foam padding used in these gloves makes punching the heavy bag and mitts an enjoyable experience. Because of the padding, fighters can throw power punches and the glove does an exceptional job of absorbing a lot of the recoil that can be felt in other lower quality boxing gloves (this is just from our experience, results may vary).
The craftsmanship of the glove is also another reason why you should consider the Extra Padding model. When you first crack these gloves open from their original packaging, you’re greeted with the scent of premium luxurious leather that will definitely make you feel like you bought something expensive. The velcro strap on the Extra Padding model will last a long time, unlike cheaply made boxing gloves’ velcro straps that may wear out within a year.
While we think that this glove can serve you well in your Muay Thai training, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. We would like to think that this is the perfect glove all around, but unfortunately, there are a few drawbacks when it comes to the Cleto Reyes Extra Padding Boxing Gloves.
An adjustment period will be needed for these gloves, as they can be a bit challenging to put on the first couple of times. The boxing gloves’ hand compartment does an excellent job of securing your hands, but during a regular Muay Thai class where you need to put on and take off your gloves at various times, it can be a struggle to quickly get them back on. This is especially the case if you’re using boxing hand wraps.
With just the one minor drawback, that should not deter you from making the switch to Cleto Reyes for your Muay Thai training. These gloves are sure to withstand your intense Muay Thai training and will last you a while compared to cheaply made boxing gloves. The gloves are great for hard punching and flexible enough to get you through clinch drills.
